“Last year it took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life,” he wrote. “But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series of all time.”

“As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge slog to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show,” he wrote. “And now, Gi-hun is back Is. The front man returns. The news is hardly surprising considering the massive ratings for Season 1 of “Squid Game” for Netflix. The streamer claimed that over 100 million people watched the show within its first 12 days, making it the biggest launch in Netflix history.

Stilld, Season 2 wasn’t always a given. Hwang didn’t originally intend to write a second season (although he did include some easter eggs in Season 1 in case he changes his mind). He often spoke of considering taking another season out of obligation more than anything else.

In 2021 Hwang said, “I’m getting a lot of pressure on Season 2. I feel like the fans have an obligation to explain it and I’m thinking about Season 2, but at the time, I was like. Season 1 over Tired of doing it, I really couldn’t think of season 2, but now that it’s become such a huge hit, people will hate me if I don’t make season 2, so I feel a lot of pressure and I think I have to. The huge success of Season 1 is a big reward for me, but at the same time it has put a lot of pressure on me.”
